AROMATHERAPY

I had never thought much about Aromatherapy and essential oils until I started making candles a few years ago, and realised that there was so much to understand when using the oils. I was quite overwhelmed with the different uses for oils and how they worked together to produce different results. It's not one of my strong areas of interest, but I have a few books which I have listed below which have been an enormous help for me in terms of reference material. I also just love using a few drops of oil in my oil burner, which fills the house with a lovely fragrance, and I truly believe that different scents, do have different effects on your body, mind and spirit.

RECIPES FOR NATURAL BEAUTY RECIPES FOR NATURAL BEAUTY
NEALS YARD.
Neal's Yard brought out this book, full of natural skin care recipes. I have to say, I love the book, and it inspired me to go and buy all the natural ingredients to make my own face moisturiser. Three years later, all the ingredients are still sitting in my cupboard somewhere.....oh well - I enjoy my decleor too much! For those who are more proactive though, you might find this very useful. Loads of information on the different properties of various plants and oils. Very easy to read and understand and lots of pictures too. Lists recipes for basically every area of the body from shampoos to cellulite oils (that's oils to get rid of cellulite....not to accumulate it!) A good reference table is listed with the oils divided into Base notes, middle notes and top notes, which is an important consideration in oil blending. The recipes are divided into Hair Care, Skin Care, Eye Care, Mouth and Ear Care, Hand Care, Foot Care and Body Care. It even has a section on perfumes. If you're into natural remedies, or are concerned about the chemicals found in your over the counter products, you'll love this book. I would love to hear from anyone who has made some of these recipes, and their experiences of using them!

ESSENTIAL OILS ESSENTIAL OILS
NEALS YARD - SUSAN CURTIS.
Companion book to the one above that I bought at the same time. This is also a lovely book with loads of information about essential oils. This book lists 42 different essential oils, along with a description of each oil's character, healing properties and psychological profile. The book also lists safety information for each oil, for example, which oils are unsafe to put undiluted onto skin, or for pregnant women etc. The book begins with basic information on how essential oils work, how they are extracted, and storage information. I had had no experience with essential oils when I first bought this book so I found this information really helpful. The book then lists 42 different oils per two pages. Easy to read layout with comprehensive information. The oils are listed in alphabetical order by their latin name, for example the first oil listed is Yarrow, which is Achillea Millefolium. But not to worry - the index in the back lists all the oils with the relevant page numbers. There is also a handy section on blending oils and some recipes for blends such as detox, stress reliever and nerve soother. Also a great chart at the end that lists the oils and ticks what illness/problems they can be used to help with. If you work with essential oils, or are merely interested in them, this is a great reference book to keep on your shelf.

THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO AROMATHERAPY, MASSAGE AND REFLEXOLOGY THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO AROMATHERAPY, MASSAGE AND REFLEXOLOGY
DENISE WHICHELLO BROWN AND SANDRA WHITE.
I found this book in the little gift shop at Westonbirt Arboretum (a great place for a walk in nature - see nature link below). It was a real discovery as it was so cheap, and it's really a great resource book. Easy to understand, great information about massage, aromatherapy and reflexology. Loads of pictures to demonstrate, and a really nice book to look through. Actually, it would make a great gift for anyone interested in any of those areas.
