HEALING AND SYMBOLOGY

I wanted a section on the website on animals, because I believe they help us to heal in so many ways.

I love animals, and especially cats. Our family has always had cats, and I know at times growing up whenever I was feeling particularly sad or upset, my cats always seemed to know and would come and just sit on my knee, or sleep on my bed. Our pets have an intuitive sense of when we need them. They provide comfort just by keeping us company, by showing us affection, and even by making us laugh.

Animals show us the way of unconditional love. Observe the loyalty of a dog - even when it is poorly treated by it's owners, it still loves them and will still stay with them and obey commands.

I like to spend time with my cat, just holding him on my knee, feeling how soft his fur is, how comfortable his body looks, how loud his purring sounds!! Take the time to really notice your pets, to appreciate them, and to observe them just being themselves. That in itself is incredibly healing. Be in the present moment with your pet and really feel and appreciate the loving energy that they constantly send to you. They truly are a gift to us from our Creator.

Seeing animals in their natural environment, in the open is also an incredible experience. This is something that will bring you right into the present moment. If you are ever on a woodland walk and happen across a deer, it's intinctual that you stop and quietly watch. And it feels like you've experienced something special - because you have. You are watching divine energy, love and creation right there in front of you. Take the time to really look around you now and notice how many animals are in your field of vision. If you can't see any, move someplace where you can. Then just take the time to watch and appreciate them. Nothing brings you back to the present moment and gives you a sense of peace and order like watching an animal just doing what it does.

I also believe that we have power animals or animal guides watching over us at different times of our lives. Shamanic healing involves power animals a lot, and I really think that knowing who our power animal is at any time in our lives can be very comforting. You may dream about an animal (a common way your animal guide will make contact with you) or you may feel a strong afinity to a particular animal. If that is the case then you can be sure that this animal is your guide, and is helping and supporting you.

For thousands of years, animals have been seen as omens, signs or warnings of what is to come to you. I believe that the symbology of animals can help us to better understand ourselves and where we are at any time in our lives.
